Italian director Manuela Ruggiero presents “Addio Billie Blues” (Goodbye Billie Blues) inspired by the biography of Billie Holiday (translated by Marco Cantoni) at the Teatro dell’Orologio (Theatre of the Clock) of Rome Italy from October 16th through October 21st.
It’s an original work about one of the most popular and discussed people of the last 40 years. Manuela lets us live the trouble of that period, where an African American artist in a world of prejudice wasn’t able to pursue her dreams and talents on stage by expressing her pain and feelings through song. The story performed at the Teatro dell’Orologio begins from the end of Billie’s life. She’s opening her heart to her only great love and she’s confessing that she realized she followed a fake dream. However she recollects her last energies and begins her last show, to greet the world as Lady Day. The protagonist is interpreted by Tenerezza Fattore. The songs are arranged by Manuel Bandettini, David Giacobini, Sandro Mambella, Antonio Del Sordo, Andrea Colella, Marco Tocilj.
