Loretta Lynn has been inducted into the George D. Hay Music Hall of Fame this past Sunday, Sept. 20. Named after the man who established the legendary Grand Ole Opry, the George D. Hay Music Hall of Fame sets out to honor artists who
have made a significant contribution in the world of country music. Gene Williams, Dot Rhodes, and Mike Snider were inducted on Sunday as well.
Loretta Lynn stands as one of the most influential women in country music. She rose to fame during the 60s and 70s and has since released over 70 hits. He debut single, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl” remains as one of her most notable tunes. A coal miner’s daughter from Butcher Holly, KY, Lynn married at the age of 14 and went on to become a mother of four. Her career not only paved the way for female musicians, but for country music artists as well. She managed to bring country music to a much a larger listening audience, without ever once straying from her roots. She continues to write and play music today, working alongside a range of artists including Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, and Jack White.
