Rockabilly Star Dies at 75

                                      

Billy Lee Riley lost his battle to colon cancer on August 2nd at a hospital in Jonesboro, Ark.

Billy Lee Riley, 75, the growling rockabilly singer and multi-instrumentalist accompanied Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Rich and others in recording sessions in the 1950s.

He often accompanied Lewis as backup bassist for many of his hits including "Great Balls of Fire."  Riley was best known for his hit in 1957 called "Flyin' Saucers Rock and Roll."  Billy Lee Riley started his music career in the 1950s after his return from the army.  He joined the country band Snearly's Ranch Boys.  He moved to Los Angeles during the early 1960s to pursue his music.  He worked in recording studios behind performers ranging from Herb Alpert to the Beach Boys.

His latest solo albums have been widely enjoyed by rock critics and fans.  His music will live on for the future of Rockabilly music.
